A journey of discovery.

I challenged myself. I stepped up to this challenge unsure of if I would be able to commit to something that I am not keen about, running.

Now here I am, 28 runs logged with just two more to log and almost an entire month of running behind me. To say that I have surprised myself is a massive understatement. I am really proud of what I have been able to accomplish because I held myself accountable to a task and I got up every day and said, “let’s go Carlos, this run won’t happen if you don’t do it”. So if I had to make a point of this it would be to STAY THE COURSE/BE COMMITTED.

Something that also surprised me was how many persons were watching and cheering me on from the “sidelines”. I would go places and someone would comment on the #Dec1KEveryday hashtag or ask how the running is going, or like has happened a couple of times now offered to run with me and that has made a lot of difference. The knowledge of friends and family being there and encouraging me provided greater accountability and the running was certainly easier with the company. On those days where no one ran with me, I felt every step of each kilometre I ran but one person running with me made a big difference.  Point number two then would be, BE ACCOUNTABLE/GO WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS.

The last thing that I discovered over this past month is the importance of “writing it down" or tracking your journey. Having a log that shows all that you are doing or have done is a great way to motivate yourself to keep going. As I opened my running app each day during December, I felt a sense of accomplishment to look back and see the kilometres logged.  Every step mattered and every difficult morning/evening running was made worthwhile because I could see the journey and the progress however small it was. My third piece of advice to you is to WRITE IT DOWN.

In just under an hour, I leave to go running and I find myself thinking about a January Challenge after being asked to do it. So I will give it some thought today and come back tomorrow to let you know what it will be.

As the year and the decade ends, I want to thank all of you who read this blog and send me your comments and feedback. If I have in any way encouraged you to get physical, then I am glad for this platform. If you read these posts and are yet to get moving, I am glad that you read them.
